ONE Announces Three World Title Bout Ahead Of Historic Tokyo Event

ONE Championship has just announced six huge bouts ahead of ONE: A NEW ERA, which will take place on Sunday, 31 March in Tokyo, Japan.

Three ONE World Titles will be on the line as ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang will take on former titleholder Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki in a main-event rematch.

The pair first met in November 2016 at ONE: DEFENDING HONOR, with Folayang defeating the Japanese icon for the belt. Now, as both men enter the clash on three-bout win streaks, each is looking to prove they are the better martial artist and leave the Ryogoku Kokugikan with the gold.

Champ vs Champ

Also, “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan will defend her ONE Women’s Strawweight World Title against ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee.

The World Champion VS World Champion match-up has been in the works for quite some time. The two were originally slated to meet at ONE: HEART OF THE LION in November, but Singapore’s Lee was forced out of the bout due to injury.

Now, fully healed, the undefeated atomweight queen aims to write mixed martial arts history by becoming the first two-division women’s ONE World Champion. But first, she has to take out Xiong, who has yet to taste defeat in her ONE career.

Rematch from 2018’s “Bout of the Year”

In the other co-main event, two-division ONE World Champion Aung La N Sang will defend his middleweight title against Ken Hasegawa in a highly sough-after rematch.

“The Burmese Python” and the Japanese powerhouse clashed in June 2018, marking one of the most iconic battles in the promotion’s history. Their contest was awarded “Bout Of The Year” at the 2018 Global Martial Arts Awards, which Aung La N Sang won in the closing moments of the final round. Now, fans will get the sequel.

In addition to that, the card will also include the promotional debuts of newly signed and former UFC champions Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.

Alvarez already has a spot in mixed martial arts history, as he is the only one to hold titles in both UFC and Bellator. He begins his quest to complete the trilogy as he takes on Timofey Nastyukhin — heir to the fastest knockout in ONE history — in the quarterfinals of the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Johnson, who made 11 consecutive defenses of the UFC Flyweight Title, will take on the always-dangerous Japanese finisher Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu in the quarterfinals of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix.

As if ONE: A NEW ERA could not get any bigger, the card receives an extra boost of star power with a spectacular ONE Super Series Kickboxing match-up. Two-time K-1 World Max Champion Andy Souwer will take on Muay Thai hero Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex.
