Cambodian Top Team’s Nou Srey Pov is on a roll, and there are no signs of her slowing down.
The 24-year-old striking phenom ended last year by being awarded “Female Fighter of the Year” by World Lethwei Championship (WLC) and also captured the World International Kun Khmer Championship belt.
In mid-February, she reached international fame when she made her ONE Championship debut and dominated Thailand’s Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige at ONE: CLASH OF LEGENDS in Bangkok.
Now, she has her eyes set on Olympic gold as she will be representing Cambodia as part of the boxing team at 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.
On the verge of becoming one of Cambodia’s most prominent athletes, here are four interesting things you should know about Nou Srey Pov.
#1. Her favorite Cambodian and foreign fighter
Srey Pov is known for her superb striking, and it comes as no surprise that two of her favorite athletes are recognized for their boxing talent.
“One of my favorites is the famous boxer [Manny] Pacquiao. He competed not long ago and won again,” she says enthusiastically.
“First of all, I love his spirit. Second of all, since I’m also a boxer, I love his striking skills.”
“His punches are very powerful.”
In Cambodia, Srey Pov enjoys the local Kun Khmer scene and has a couple of favorite competitors.
“If we talk about fighting style and being quick, I like Phal Sophorn,” she says.
“I love the way he uses his hands when he fights. He’s really fast!”
#2. Boxing is not her only talent
Even if Srey Pov is making waves in the world of martial arts, she has a lot of different hobbies and interest.
“Most people think I only have a talent for boxing and fighting,” she explains. “But actually, I’m also good at dancing and singing.”
She shares her interest with fellow ONE Championship and training partner Vy Srey Khouch and takes every opportunity to express her personality through music.
“I love singing funny songs and making people laugh!”
#3. She loves Korean drama
Srey Pov spends most of her day sharpening her combat skills, but when she is looking to relax she enjoys watching TV.
“I like Korean drama because the male actors are so handsome,” she laughs.
“When I started watching Korean drama, I first saw a movie with the actor Rain (Jung Ji-hoon).”
“Now, my heart is full of Rain, too bad he now has a wife and children,” she giggles.
#4. She has one memory that always makes her laugh
Despite her young age, Srey Pov has already stacked up many memorable moments in her life.
When asked what makes her smile, she remembers a day when she was young.
” I laugh whenever I think of my crazy friend,” she begins.
“We were herding cows together, and she was so foolish!”
“She tied her leg to a cow and then hit it, so it started running! My friend is just crazy, and every time we meet, we will remember that day and laugh so much!”
