Kun Khmer Star Lao Chetra’s Debut Set For ONE: CLASH OF LEGENDS in Bangkok

ONE Championship’s all-striking league Super Series (OSS) just got a whole lot more interesting as the world’s largest martial arts organization now reveals that Kun Khmer superstar Lao Chetra will make his debut at ONE: CLASH OF LEGENDS on Saturday, 16 February.

Chetra will join Kun Khmer World Champion Nou Srey Pov in the Impact Arena in Bangkok as both Cambodian’s are officially set for the star-packed bout card in “The Land of Smiles.”

Srey Pov will make her mixed martial arts debut against Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige in a women’s atomweight contest that can propel the 22-year-old Cambodian to absolute stardom if she manages to upset the talented Thai on her home ground.

In turn, Chetra will compete in an exhilarating Super Serie’s bout against one of Thailand’s most highly regarded featherweights in the two-time Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9.

“I am happy to be able to compete in such a big fight,” says Chetra.

“But like in all big competitions, it doesn’t matter if I lose or win; I will always do my very best anyway!”

2019 is turning out to be a massive year for Cambodian martial arts, and February will notably be a crucial month for the “Kingdom of Wonder.”

Not only will Srey Pov and Chetra compete at ONE: CLASH OF LEGENDS in Bangkok, just a week later, Kong Sambo and Khon Sichan will join ONE: CALL TO GREATNESS on Friday, 22 February in Singapore.

Lao Chetra is regarded as one of Cambodia’s absolute best

With the momentum Chan Rothana and Sovannahry Em set in motion with their momentous victories at ONE: DESTINY OF CHAMPIONS in Kuala Lumpur, many are thrilled that some of Cambodia’s best martial artists are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

“Chetra is on the top of the food chain,” Cambodian Top Team leader Hun Chan Reach explains.

“The fight against Superlek is a huge fight! Maybe not to others, but definitely to the Cambodian people and the Thais.”

“Firstly, it’s against Superlek, and he is one of their top fighters and probably one of the best fighters of his generation.”

“Secondly, because it’s Lao Chetra and he comes from a family of fighters, and he is the number one at the moment,” Chan Reach continues.

“This is a good opportunity for Kun Khmer to showcase our skills, our warrior spirit, and our heart.”

Coming from a lineage of top-level martial arts competitors, Chetra did not have to look far and wide to find someone to motivate him to train Kun Khmer.

His older brother Lao Sinath is already a well-respected and famous Kun Khmer star in Cambodia, and Chetra draws a lot of inspiration from him.

“My brother used to be very famous, and everyone still recognizes him wherever he goes,” says Chetra.

“I want to be like him.”

Comes February he will have a tremendous opportunity to build on his own legacy by challenging one of the best Muay Thai competitors in the world.

Should he be victorious, he will most definitely be on the fast track to the very top of the ONE Super Series featherweight division.

This is a possibility Chetra won’t take for granted.

“Now that I’m fighting internationally, I will make sure I train twice as hard!”
