At 36 years of age, two-time K-1 World MAX Champion and ONE Super Series athlete Andy Souwer has accomplished more than most martial artists dare to dream about.
Now, the Dutch lightweight competitor is set to find success in a different aspect of his life as he has teamed up with Cambodia’s Kingdom Fight Gym (KFG) in Siem Reap.
Inspired by ONE Championship and the gym’s important commitment to the local community, Souwer believes the vision of KFG founders Mark Van Dongen and Kwok Leung Tsang resonates with his own values.
“What we strive for is not only to bring fighters [to our gym], but we also want to support the local youths with free training and education,” KFG leader Leung Tsang explains.
“We want to have a big sports center where we have as many kids as possible that we can support.”
After connecting with co-founder Van Dongen, Souwer became the ambassador for the Siem Reap gym alongside another Dutch superstar — kickboxing legend Ernesto “Mr. Perfect” Hoost.
Souwer is on the verge of making a big contribution to the cause. He will be putting one of his championship belts up for auction, and he will also donate part of his upcoming bout purse to the Cambodian gym.
“It’s not about the money. It’s more about the future and looking after the kids. They want to have a brighter future,” Souwer says.
“ONE Championship is doing the same thing right now. They’re showing people and the rest of the world — especially in Asia — that if you stay focused and humble, you can achieve your goals.”

Even though “Souwer Power” has competed all over the world, he has yet to visit Cambodia. However, he plans to change that very soon.
Following his ONE Super Series kickboxing clash with Muay Thai legend Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex at ONE: A NEW ERA in Tokyo, Japan in March, he aims to train in “The Kingdom Of Wonder” and see first-hand the important work that KFG are doing.
“After my fight, I want to visit,” the Dutch star continues.
“I want to get involved with the camp, and I want to get involved with the kids. I want to give them my opinion and share my motivation.”
Both KFG and Souwer’s collaboration mark yet another success for the Siem Reap gym as they recently signed their first athlete to ONE Championship.
Kun Khmer talent Kong Sambo will make his promotional debut in early 2019, and Souwer hopes to inspire and disperse his wealth of knowledge with the new wave of Cambodian competitors.
“I have had a lot of experiences, and I just want to share that. I just hope that it is possible for the kids,” he says.
